Recent Vehicle Ignition Work
Below are some examples of recent ignition repair work we've carried out across North Tyneside and Northumberland. These include problems with ignition barrels that have become stiff, keys that won't turn and ignition switches that have stopped working.
Where possible, we always aim to repair the existing ignition rather than replacing it. The examples below show some of the different ignition faults we've attended.
Ignition problems can develop gradually or just fail without warning. If you notice any of the following symptoms, it’s worth getting it checked out by a professional auto locksmith sooner rather than later.
The key
won't turn: Your key may be difficult to turn or won’t turn at all.
The key keeps getting stuck:
A key that repeatedly sticks or is difficult to remove could indicate a problem
with the ignition barrel.
The ignition feels loose or
worn: Excessive movement or a change in how the key feels can be a sign of
wear inside the barrel.
Your car won't start: If the key turns and the dashboard lights up but the engine does nothing, the cause could be a failed ignition switch.
Mobile Ignition Repairs Northumberland & North Tyneside
When your ignition develops a fault, it could potentially
leave you stranded. Getting your vehicle to a garage isn't always
straightforward. You must get the vehicle recovered and then wait until the
garage gets chance to actually look at the problem. Our mobile auto locksmith service means we can
attend your location across Northumberland and North Tyneside within an hour.
We can help with problems involving jammed or faulty
ignition barrels, damaged keys and other car key related issues.
Sometimes a repair is all that’s needed. On other occasions
a full ignition replacement may be necessary. If we do need to replace the whole
ignition barrel, we only use genuine OEM parts.
Steering Lock Problems
A steering lock that won't release can be caused by two different faults. The first is a problem with the actual ignition barrel itself. If the key won't turn in the ignition, the steering lock will remain engaged. Alternatively, the steering lock mechanism could be faulty or jammed, stopping the steering wheel from unlocking and the ignition key from turning.
It's important to identify which part is causing the problem by carrying out a full diagnosis. We can inspect both the ignition barrel and steering lock mechanism to find out exactly where the fault lies. Then we can determine if the existing parts can be repaired or if they need replacing.
