Stay Safe Locksmiths carry out burglary repairs across
A break-in always leaves people feeling shaken and wanting one thing above anything else, to get their home secured again as quickly as possible. The last thing you need in that situation is someone arriving and trying to sell you a new door you do not need, or carrying out a rushed repair that leaves a weak point the next person could exploit just as easily.

The damage from forced entry varies depending on how the burglar got in and how much resistance the door put up. Some of the most common repairs we attend include a cylinder that has been snapped or forced out, a multi-point locking mechanism that has been damaged when the door was kicked, a door frame or keep that has split under impact, and doors that have been forced out of alignment and no longer close or lock correctly.
In the majority of cases the door itself can be saved. Even after a significant forced entry, a proper repair is usually both possible and far more cost effective than replacing the whole door and frame. We will assess what is actually damaged and give you a straight answer on what needs doing.

Lock snapping is one of the most common forced entry methods used throughout Northumberland and North Tyneside, and across the UK more broadly. It works by snapping off the exposed portion of a euro cylinder, which then allows the internal mechanism to be turned with a basic tool. The whole process takes seconds and requires no particular skill.
The reason it remains so common is that a huge number of doors still have cylinders that are vulnerable to this method. If your door has a standard euro cylinder without any snap protection built in, it's a weak point that a burglar with basic knowledge will exploit.
As part of any burglary repair, Stay Safe Locksmiths will
check the cylinder that was fitted and advise on whether it needs upgrading.

Another common break in technique is breaking open a traditional wooden door with brute force. This is more common on wooden doors that use a traditional night latch that’s not British Standard rated. Older 3 lever locks are also more susceptible due to a lack of strength in the bolt as opposed to a modern 5 lever insurance approved lock.
Stay Safe Locksmiths are experts at repairing damage done to doors, locks and door frames after a break in through a wooden door. We can also advise on suitable lock upgrades at the same time to prevent it happening again in the future.
In more opportunistic cases, entry is sometimes gained without any technical skill at all. This includes break-ins through unlocked doors, poorly secured doors, or windows that have been closed but not fully locked. Many burglaries are not planned in detail but actually occur when an easy weakness is identified during a quick check of the property.
If you are making a claim on your home insurance following the break-in, having clear documentation from an MLA Approved company about how the break in occurred, what locks were replaced and why helps massively. We provide a detailed invoice of the work carried out, the parts replaced, and the condition things were in when we arrived. That gives you everything you need when you speak to your insurer without you having to piece it all together afterwards.
If you have had a break-in and need the damage repaired properly by someone you can trust, we are here to help. We will assess the situation honestly, carry out the work to a proper standard, and make sure your home is secure before we leave.
